Artists on Elgin to Feature 'Journey of a Woven Thread' by Dani Ortman
Manitoulin Island Hand Weaver Revives Tradition in the 21st Century

SUDBURY, ON (February, 27, 2017)- Journey of a Woven Thread takes you along the path of an artist who is bringing back traditional hand weaving by gracefully infusing it with contemporary aesthetic and design. Dani Ortman graduated from Kootenay School of the Arts with honours and an unwavering determination to weave. Not long after, she established herself as an independent weaver on Manitoulin Island.

Ortman strives to share the life that is present in each textile and through every thread. Her handwoven pieces each have a story and a heart, they are woven with integrity, expression and the desire to craft a product unparalleled to anything made by a machine.
"Weaving for me is the means of expressing myself and my visions" said Dani Ortman, Independent Weaver, "It is a place I go to connect with something that, for me, is greater than this world."

Ortman has been recognized by The Guild of Canadian Weavers, Craft Ontario and Cabbagetown Arts & Crafts for her work and has had featured exhibitions in both Canada and the United States.

The Public is encouraged to attend the opening reception for Journey of a Woven Thread on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 1:00pm to 4:00 pm where Ortman will be present to discuss her work. Ortman will be giving a live demonstration of some weaving techniques, as well as welcoming the public to come out and try her loom. Light refreshments will be served during the reception. The exhibition will be open to the public for the month of March at Artists on Elgin.

The solo exhibition will feature Ortman's original pieces, as well as bring you up to speed with her current body of work-where she explores geometry, colour and crafting optical effects in handwoven textiles.
