Fran Holland
Presented by Artists on Elgin
March 1 -30

Masterpieces: Pieced Landscapes of the North is open to the public at Artists on Elgin for the month of March. The reception will be held on Saturday, March 5th from 1 – 4 pm.

Fran Holland presents a series of landscape walls hangings, exploring imagery of Northern Ontario. She does not work from photographs, instead constructing sceneries based on her familiarity with the surrounding landscape.

In her 40 years of quilting, Holland has acquired a preference for certain techniques. Masterpieces demonstrates her inclination towards appliqué, a technique she uses to construct pieced or collaged backgrounds. The use of appliqué creates multiple focal points and the illusions of depth within the work.

Artists on Elgin is located at 168 Elgin Street, and is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Artists on Elgin is a project of its parent organization, The Northern Artist Gallery, where artists can exhibit, promote and sell their work in an attractive and professional gallery space.
