Artists on Elgin hosts "Nocturnals" by Christy A. Smith

SUDBURY, ON – December 22, 2014 – Artists on Elgin will be hosting "Nocturnals" a plein air all prima exhibit by local artist Christy A. Smith for the month of January. The exhibit will feature a series of full moon pastel paintings created by the artist. An opening reception will be held on January 10th, 2015 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Smith is an impressionistic artist on a quest to paint 365 days of Sudbury. Each year she ventures alone into the bush for 30 days to immerse herself in her artwork. It was during one of these trips, about three years ago, that she began painting in the middle of the night. Since then, a collection of full moon paintings has emerged.

"A few years ago, I started experimenting with nocturnal painting," said local artist Smith. "Full moons and night subject paintings are a challenge, yet very exciting to execute; they add a whole new dimension to how nature is viewed."

Smith is currently in the fifth of her thirteen year quest to paint 365 days of Sudbury. Nocturnals represents the night sample of her journey and will be on display for public viewing from January 5 to January 31 at Artists on Elgin. Her opening reception will be on January 10th, 2015 where all a welcome to meet the artist.

Artists on Elgin is located at 168 Elgin Street, and is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
