SUDBURY, ON – January 23, 2014 – Artists on Elgin is proud to host an exhibit entitled Lucky Protection by northern textile artist Judy Martin. The opening reception will be held at Artists on Elgin on Saturday, February 1 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The exhibit will be on display for public viewing throughout the month of February.

This unique textile exhibit features several different pieces unified by the repeated use of the colour red. Also apparent in almost half of the pieces is the use of grids of dots. All of the work in this show relates in some way to the women who immigrated to Canada in the 19h century.

"This collection of work by Judy Martin is full of details and intricate design, she is truly a talented artist," explains Courtney Natale, Business Promotions Coordinator with The Northern Artists Gallery/Artists on Elgin.

Judy Martin has participated in more than one hundred group shows in Canada, the USA, Europe, and Japan and she has prepared twenty-five solo exhibitions. The Finnish characteristic, sisu, (courage, optimism, and indomitable will) sets Judy Martin's work apart.

You can also find more of Martin's work on display at The Art Gallery of Sudbury in an exhibit entitled Mended World running until March 2, 2014.

Artists on Elgin is located at 168 Elgin Street, and is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
