FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Kaleidoscope: Paintings and Textiles by Suzuki

SUDBURY, ON – July 26, 2013– Artists on Elgin is excited to welcome Ann Suzuki for her solo exhibit entitled Kaleidoscope. This exhibit features paintings and textiles. It will be on display throughout the month of August at Artists on Elgin. The public is invited to meet Ann during her opening reception on Saturday, August 3, 2013, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Ann speaks of her show: "The word 'kaleidoscope' is defined as anything that constantly changes, as in colour and pattern. I am a dyer, designer, sewer, and painter applying all of my knowledge of composition and colour to create textile and painted art to give personal significance and relevance to our lives."

Ann is a founding member of Artists on Elgin and is known in the gallery for her silk batik work. She hand selects her silks, which are mostly from India, China and Japan. Silk responds so well to the batik process, taking in the dyes in a very intense way, colour over colour mixing and blending until the batik is completed. Although famous for her textile work, Ann is showing a lesser-known side of her artistic talent in her upcoming exhibit – painting. Her paintings are mixed-media, including watercolour, oil and acrylic.

"I offer this exhibition to be seen through a kaleidoscope: small fragments of my work as seen reflected in mirrors," continues Ann.

Kaleidoscope will be on display for the month of August. Artists on Elgin invites the public to come in and meet the artist during the opening reception on Saturday, August 3 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Artists on Elgin is located at 168 Elgin Street, and is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
