FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Included Third Stained Glass Portraitures by Hadyn Butler

SUDBURY, ON – June 28, 2013– Artists on Elgin is excited to welcome Hadyn Butler for his solo exhibit entitled The Included Third. This exhibit features stained glass portraits. It will be on display throughout the month of July at Artists on Elgin. The public is invited to meet Hadyn during his opening reception on Saturday, July 6, 2013, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Hadyn speaks of his show: "Stained glass has the capacity to change mood and appearance by using ambient transmitted light – something that does not usually occur on the static surface of most paintings. By allowing the outside or inside "landscape" to be viewed through the glass panel, the copper foil technique allows for surprising effects to occur. As a colorist, the mosaic glass portraits are a definite revaluation of a technique that is more than 2,000 years old."

Hadyn has been honing his skills for over 30 years. His stained glass can be found locally in Sudbury buildings such as Science North, the Cancer Treatment Centre, the Mackenzie Street Library, St. Charles College and the Ukranian Senior's Centre. Hadyn is not interested in creating "realism" but is more interested in eliciting an emotion in the viewer.

"The Included Third of the 17th century Dutch school's triplet of landscape, still life and portraiture has perhaps indirectly inspired valued artistic thought. This work is not traditional painted-on-glass portraiture, but a simple expression of colour and light using various pieces of glass," continues Hadyn.

The Included Third will be on display for the month of July. Artists on Elgin invites the public to come in and meet the artist during the opening reception on Saturday, July 6 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Artists on Elgin is located at 168 Elgin Street, and is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
