"I grew up on a rocky island in Northern Ontario where the dramatic landscape and environment has given me a deep affinity with the natural world. My experiences with nature since a child has become an integral part of my art making."
Inherently drawn to the visual and aesthetic, after completing high school Melanie pursued studies in Graphic Design and Visual arts. Upon graduating, she was then drawn east, to the Maritimes, where she completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts program with Honours, at NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Returning to Ontario, Melanie entered the Jewellery and Metals program at Georgian College in Barrie, where she graduated with Honours in 2003.
Since 2003, Melanie has pursued jewellery-making exclusively. She work out of her home studio full-time and part-time out of a studio/gallery with metalsmiths alike in Toronto, Canada.
I often use found objects, mostly organic in nature, as research material.
I am a proud member of the Ontario Crafts Council (O.C.C), Metal Arts Guild of Canada (M.A.G), and Society of North American Goldsmiths (S.N.A.G)."
